Stream observations

Our community feature comes from Catherine Anscombe, one of our River Ecology trainees, who has been conducting rapid river surveys of the Bevern Stream. This photo shows her chosen spot for monitoring, and her observations highlight the importance and value of regular time spent observing your river:

Evidence of cows and bull having been to the water’s edge – hoof prints and cow faeces. Bank much more churned up than previously.
Midges seen hovering above the river.
Blackbirds and crows heard in the willow trees above the stretch of river.
Kingfisher seen 200m upstream just before making observation.
