Earlier this month Love our Ouse, with the support of the Environmental Law Foundation, welcomed the opportunity to contribute to the Lewes District Draft Local Plan ‘Towards the Spatial Strategy and Policies Directions’.

We commended the aims and responded warmly to the aim of putting the environment front and central to their environmental aims in planning decision making.

We added wording where we think it is justified and where Council Policy in the draft plan is supportive. Our key aims are to ensure:

● Our biodiversity crisis is recognised more significantly and meaningfully
● Ecological restoration of our rivers is prioritised
● That the three Council motions on river health, including on rights of rivers are recognised
● That in the case of new developments there be sustainable management of water usage by newly developed properties.
● ‘Blue’ infrastructure be considered with equal weight as ‘Green’
